Adrenal fatigue has made its way on to the scene and is causing many problems for both men and women. It is believed that adrenal fatigue/exhaustion is caused by extreme chronic stress to the body.  Though the jury remains out regarding its definitive cause its symptoms are many and range in intensity. 

Symptoms of adrenal fatigue include but are not limited to;

  • Extreme exhaustion
  • The inability to cope with life stressors,
  • Depression
  • Low blood pressure
  • Weight gain 
  • Chronic racing thoughts
  • Change in sleep patterns
  • Severe pms
  • Frequent infections
  • Low or high cortisol levels
  • Dizziness when standing
  • Anxiety
  • Craving salt or sugar

Please seek the help of a medical professional if you believe that you may be suffering from adrenal fatigue. It is of the utmost importance that sufferers treat this condition with herbal supplements,  rest and proper fuel aka food. 

A diet that helps to alleviate adrenal fatigue is key to keeping the symptoms at bay. Adrenal fatigue recipes can be found in the book, Empower Your Body, Empower Your Mind- A journey through grief  by JoAnn Johnson. 

In addition to a diet focused on adrenal support, herbal supplements, rest, reduction of stress and balanced lunches are also essential to add the following tips to your regiment: 

It is important to remember that adrenals refuel between 10:00 pm and 2:00 am , therefore it is best to try to be asleep during those hours. 

  • Avoid sugar 
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine 
  • Increase salt intake (discuss with your physician) 
  • Use Himalayan Sea salt when possible 
  • Be sure to have a diet with 20% carbohydrates 
  • Avoid plant oils 
  • Enjoy avocados and coconut oil 
  • Drink 8 glasses of water a day but avoid getting too much water as it dilutes your sodium 
  • Enjoy mild exercise, working out too hard with exhaust you
  • Allow yourself the recovery time and be patient. Adrenal fatigue did not appear overnight and will take some time to heal. 
  • Allow the Lord to work in your life during this time of recovery. He has slowed you down and now is the time to sit at His feet. 

Foods to eat when one has adrenal fatigue:

  • Lean meats
  • Fish
  • Eggs
  • Legumes
  • Nuts
  • Leafy greens and  colorful vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Dairy
  • Low-sugar  fruits
  • Sea salt in moderation
  • Healthy  fats
